State Of Hockey Tribute

In the years leading up to the completion of Xcel Energy Center, Minnesota Wild and Xcel Energy Center officials envisioned museum exhibits in the arena dedicated to Minnesota’s contributions to the sport of hockey. Below are listed the exhibits that can be viewed in Xcel Energy Center:

  • Wells Fargo Jersey Wall: The jerseys of approximately 200 high school hockey teams (almost all of the boys' programs and about a third of the girls) are on display on the Club Cambria Executive Suite Level. These pose a striking tribute to high school hockey in the state and highlight the hosting of both the annual boys and girls MSHSL tournaments each February and March in the arena.
  • Minnesota State High School League Tournaments: As a complement to the high school jersey exhibit, St. Paul Pioneer Press headlines from eighteen selected tournaments are displayed on eight support pillars that surround the lower level. The exhibit begins with the very first event in 1945 and includes representations from the second level boys’ tournament as well as the girls’ competition that began in 1995.
  • College Hockey Awards: Located outside the Iron Range Grill just inside Gate 4 are the Hobey Baker and Patty Kazmaier Awards annually honoring the nation's most outstanding male and female college players.
  • US Hockey Hall of Fame Museum Exhibits: The 100 level's Iron Range Grill restaurant features six exhibit cases relating to the Eveleth, Minnesota-based tribute to hockey in the United States. Two cases are dedicated to the museum and its exhibits while four rotate on a two-year basis and highlight various Iron Range communities as well as the areas' outstanding players and teams. In addition, the walls feature murals of past senior, high school, and youth teams from across "the Range."
  • WCHA Jerseys: As host of the WCHA's Men’s Final Five Tournament, Xcel Energy Center displays the jerseys of the league's ten member teams just inside Gate 2. In the same general vicinity is the restored original Zamboni from the St. Paul Auditorium, wall hangings recognizing historic moments in Minnesota hockey and an exhibit on the Broadmoor Trophy that goes to the winner of the Final Five event.
  • St. Paul Champions: The Treasure Island Resort & Casino Club Level exhibits honor St. Paul minor league (plus one major league) champions representing the seasons of 1919-20, 1934-35, 1948-49, 1959-60, 1960-61, and 1964-65. These exhibits include a replica jersey and St. Paul Pioneer Press' headlines and photographs that appear on six support pillars near the surrounding seating area. Also on this level a hockey/corporate timeline feature significant events in both Minnesota and Treasure Island history.
  • Other Exhibits: Rotating exhibits on various aspects of Minnesota hockey can be found in the Hockey Lodge and at Gate 3. The latter area also features an exhibit on Mr./Ms. Hockey that annually recognizes the most outstanding male and female Minnesota high school hockey players. Other lower-level concourse wall exhibits feature Minnesota North Star's announcer Al Shaver, hockey legend Herb Brooks and former Wild player Sergei Zholtok. The 200 level concourse highlights the state's first major league team, the St. Paul Athletic Club, and its greatest player Frank "Moose" Goheen. Also on that level are photomurals of historic Minnesota arenas and wall treatments of junior and women's hockey. The Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference has its own jersey display representing the league's nine varsity programs.
